Their main activity is to influence the policy of local authorities regarding the environment of the region. These local organizations also perform an educational function. They conduct trainings, lectures and various information meetings, during which they communicate with residents of the city.

The teams of Dallas environmental organizations are mostly made up of the city’s residents. From it, water goes to the taps of private homes and industries. Therefore, water from the Trinity is used both to make craft beer and to water lawns. Due to the fact that unconscious citizens have been littering the river for decades, our contemporaries are forced to watch how it gradually turns into a dirt trail between dams.

Local authorities are not worried about the state of the main source of water in Dallas. They perceive the Trinity more as a problem than as a resource that should be developed and used.

Therefore, the city residents have repeatedly come to the rescue. They usually create groups for discussion on social networks in advance and agree on the place and time of the meeting. In addition, community activists discuss who will bring the necessary equipment.

Recently, the city has also launched the Trinity Coalition, an association of caring citizens, which actively advocates for the protection of Trinity. First, the members of the association want to raise awareness among citizens about the quality of the water in the river. They are sure that some people are staying away because they have no idea about the real state of the river. Second, the Trinity Coalition aims to promote information to the city authorities about the need for their help. To do this, they want to enlist the support of as many commercial organizations as possible for additional funding.

Making the city greener

In 2018, the city of Dallas launched the Branch Out Dallas program. According to it, it is planned to increase the number of trees in the city by 37% by 2040. However, this initiative involves much more than just planting. The special thing about this project is that it places trees exactly where they are lacking.

Christopher McMaster, a member of the Dallas Parks and Recreation Department, is working on this issue. He studies in detail the specifics of each area of the city: health burden, heat inconsistency for the heat island effect (if the area is hotter than the city average, special attention is paid to it), etc. The specialist also notes that trees are planted most rarely in West and South Dallas, so they need to be planted there with special care.

The city authorities are calling on volunteers to join the tree planting process. Announcements regularly appear on the official websites of the Dallas Park and Recreation Department and the Texas Tree Fund with precise locations where they plan to carry out landscaping. Mostly, citizens meet in parks from October to April. They receive the necessary equipment and tree seedlings.

Use of alternative energy sources

The Texas city of Dallas has been distinguished among other American cities for many years as one of the most conscious. To be more precise, the United States Environmental Protection Agency recognized Dallas as the largest consumer of green energy back in 2015.

Then, dozens of giant city enterprises switched to alternative energy sources, such as solar and wind. As a result, Dallas was able to overtake even Houston and Austin in terms of the amount of electricity used from alternative sources.

To a greater extent, this achievement was due to the city government’s policy, which was aimed at converting as many enterprises as possible to alternative electricity. However, the government officials were surprised when they noticed solar panels en masse on the roofs of ordinary residential buildings. Such an initiative appeared for several reasons. Firstly, environmentally conscious townspeople decided to make their contribution to preserving nature. Secondly, information that using alternative sources of electricity is much cheaper quickly spread among the local population. As a result, this environmental movement has significantly improved the energy situation in the city.

Every conscious person is interested in what he or she can do to protect the environment.
